Roni Cohen-Sandler, PhD, is a clinical psychologist, author, consultant and lecturer who specializes in the issues of women and girls, parenting adolescents, depression and self-destructive behavior and learning disorders.
Dr. Cohen-Sandler has been a parenting expert on national media such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America and National Public Radio. She is also a frequent interview subject for newspapers and popular magazines such as Newsweek, The New York Times and USA Today. Dr. Cohen-Sandler is a contributing editor to Girls’ Life, the national magazine for girls, and writes a parenting column for Weston magazine.
Dr. Cohen-Sandler’s most recent book, Stressed-out Girls: Helping Them Thrive in the Age of Pressure, is based on interviews and surveys of 3,000 middle school and high school students. It has been striking a chord with teenage girls as well as their parents and teachers across the country.
I’m Not Mad, I Just Hate You! A New Understanding of Mother-Daughter Conflict, her first book, was a national bestseller that has been published around the world. Her follow-up, Trust Me, Mom — Everyone Else Is Going! The New Rules for Mothering Teenage Daughters, won a National Parenting Publication Gold Medal in 2002.
Dr. Cohen-Sandler has been an invited guest lecturer, panel moderator and workshop presenter at institutions such as Harvard Medical School and Duke University Health Centers, as well as numerous public and independent middle and high schools.
A member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA) and the APA’s Speaker’s Bureau, Dr. Cohen-Sandler is married with a grown daughter and a son in college. She lives with her family in southwestern Connecticut.
