How to Make Holiday Stars and Snowflakes

Make your home shimmer this holiday season. You and your daughter are sure to get into the spirit creating these decorative stars and snowflakes. Hang them on your tree, in windows, from doorways or on wrapped packages.

What You Will Need
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wire cutters
  • Ribbon
  • 28-gauge wire (available at craft store)
  • Assorted beads
How to Do It
  1. To make each star, help your daughter cut pipe cleaners into three even pieces, approximately four to five inches in length, and one slightly longer piece. Tightly wrap the three pieces together in the middle with the longer pipe cleaner.
  2. Spread the eight spokes evenly. Hook one end of the longer piece and attach a piece of pretty ribbon. If needed, trim the points to make them even in length.
  3. To make each snowflake, help your daughter cut three even pieces of wire, approximately three to five inches in length. Gather the three pieces and tightly wrap them together in the middle with a short piece of wire.
  4. Spread the six spokes evenly. String beads of different colors and sizes onto each spoke. Tie off each end by creating a loop with the wire and inserting it back into the last bead.
  5. With another piece of wire, create an inner circle by wrapping the wire once around each spoke, adding beads as you go. Tie off the wire and cut it.
  6. Add a piece of ribbon to one end and your snowflake is ready to hang!
